Overlooking the Ionian Sea, the San Domenico Palace was born as a Dominican convent of the fourteenth century, with panoramic views of Mount Etna and the ancient Greek theater of Taormina. The convent was enlarged in 1896 to transform it into a hotel in Art Nouveau style. For over a century, the San Domenico Palace has welcomed the most illustrious guests, from Oscar Wilde and King Edward VIII to Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren. As part of the prestigious Four Seasons group, this iconic hotel is today starting a new chapter in its history of eternal beauty, with the charming city of Taormina at its feet. The restyling of the common areas, lobbies, restaurants, bars, swimming pools, gym, spa, meeting rooms and for the 111 rooms with terraces, was entrusted to the architect Valentina Pisani, while the Italian gardens were redesigned by the landscape architect Marco Bay. Valli&Valli was also part of this major renovation project. In fact, two collections from Valli&Valli, the Quadra H 1056 series in nicknero and the Teseo H 1037 antique brass series, have been chosen for both the rooms and the common spaces, as they perfectly match with the prestigious setting of the former convent. The Quadra H 1056 handle stands out for its square and decisive lines, for its solemnity and elegance. The Teseo H 1037 handle is a combination of prestige and precious simplicity.
